The Beautiful Lavender Gardens of Isparta, the City of Roses

Isparta is famous for its roses as well as its beautiful lavender. Gardens are located in Isparta's Kuyucak village at the foot of the Taurus Mountains, known as the purple-colored village. There are also lavender fields in Kuşçular and Çukurören villages. Supported by the Ministry of Tourism and Culture with the Future Tourism Development Program, Isparta's lavender gardens have become what they are today. The people of Kuyucak village, who started lavender production in 1975, have undergone special training and have become experts in flower cultivation day by day. The use of essential oil in lavender from cosmetics to perfumery, has made a great contribution to the economy of Turkey, especially Isparta. Lavender grown there has an economic added value. Lavender paradise, Kuyucaklı Village owes its natural beauty and a significant part of its economy to lavender gardens. In addition to lavender production, it also contributes to the economy in the tourism sector as it attracts many tourists annually with its appearance. Lavender cultivation, which started as a hobby in the gardens of houses, on the street sides, or around rose gardens, has turned into a major trade tool in the world today.


Lavender takes its name from the Latin verb "lavare" which means to clean. I think we all think of clean-smelling sheets when we think of lavender because of its pleasant scent. Although it is fragrant to humans, we cannot say the same for pests and insects. Lavender in your garden, pots, or even in your wardrobes seems to be a good method to repel animals such as houseflies, mosquitoes, moths, and fleas. In addition, in the Middle Ages, incense made from lavender was frequently used in palaces and churches to repel diseases. 


Lavender, which is also rich in vitamin C, is processed in factories and is a guest in our homes in many areas as cream, soap, cleaning material, and even tea. Today, many experts say that lavender has many benefits for the human body. Lavender honey produced naturally by bees with lavender flowers is an example of this. Known as soft honey that does not burn the throat, lavender honey helps cleanse the liver and provides antioxidant support to the body.
In addition, lavender, which is used in the form of tea and oil, has a calming and sleep-regulating effect on problems such as depression, anxiety, and insomnia thanks to its essential oil. In addition to being good for human psychology, it is said to offer solutions for physical pain. Lavender oil is said to be beneficial when used in aching joints or rheumatic pain. Lavender, is good for the digestive system and has diuretic properties through antioxidants. it contains; It is also said to be good for nausea or kidney pain.


Lavender, which starts to bloom at the end of June and the beginning of July, grows up to 1 meter in length for up to 40-45 days and reaches an image that fascinates those who see it. In August, lavender begins to be harvested and there are many visitors who are aware of this natural beauty during these months. In addition to the natural beauty of the lavender, its pleasant scent also fascinates tourists. Tourists coming to the village can have their traditional mixed breakfast in the authentic village atmosphere. They can also ride bicycles in the village and walk among the fragrant lavender at sunset. If they wish, they can take carriage tours among the lavender gardens prepared for visitors. You can buy lavender oil, soap, pouches and many other souvenirs from the stalls opened by the people living in the village.


The lavender in the village has become an important source of income first for the village, then for Isparta, then for Turkey, and most importantly, it has become a breadwinner, especially for the women of the village. It offered a brand new living space to the women of the village. In the village of approximately 250 people, migration from the village to the city is decreasing with lavender gardens and the population of the village is increasing day by day.
